Craig Green Autumn/Winter 2019
The menswear designer of the year (three times over may add) is back. Craig Green launches his new autumn/winter 2019 collection in the dark depths of Old Billingsgate Fish Market. There is so much more than what meets the eye with this fabricator. His wearable designs not only win the hearts of both men and women, but they are an armed force of emotion, melancholy and sentiment.
One main focus this season is plastic. Green bought his pastoral pilgrims to life in vibrant pops of colour. Fuchsia pink, sunflower yellow, cobalt blue and emerald green casted the runway. Plastic is the subject of environmental campaigns at this time but he said this collection is “about a man made of glass, and that idea of fragility and how emotion doesn’t mean weakness, it can also mean strength”.
The soundtrack gave us chills as the overlapping harmonic chant clashed with classical orchestral passages, and the startling echo of bagpipes. Close friends and family became quite emotional as the music guided the Green army down the runway.
A highlight is the humble wave he bashfully sent our way at the end of another, truly spectacular collection.
